"Victoria Street:

I spent part of October last year in Nelson B.C. taking care of someone's home and had some pleasant moments sketching in and around town. This painting is from a sketch i did of Victoria Street in Nelson. Nelson is a picturesque little town in the Kootenays. A beautiful spot to visit if in the area. Some great local restaurants too! I was house sitting for a lady who had a cattery.
There were 19 of the little critters.
An uncommon breed called "Siberians' because they originate from Siberia and resemble small lions. Some good sketching was had with them as well!
This is watercolour on Arches C/P paper.
20 X 27" .

  2. That's a rather large watercolour, Ross. It is delightful! The warm glow from some of the windows make these cute houses so inviting.
How did you cope with 19 cats???

    1. Hi Christiane. Thank you for your comment which is always appreciated. The warm glow was fun and something i had not done before. I am doing a similar version to this one with kids playing and snowmen. The cats were great. I enjoyed them a lot as they all had such personality. The lady was a breeder and this was her business. They were all housed in a very professional enclosure with access to the outdoors as well. Quite a lovely life they had.

  4. Lovely wintry Victoria Street! I'm guessing there are lights and warming fires on in two of the houses :)
The cat looks so pretty - and you had a few to mind, didn't you!

  5. I have only been through Nelson once, in the summer, but this is exactly what I imagine it would look like in the winter. And the Siberian is beautiful!
