"Lola"

I love the names people give their dogs. Lately it seems they are using more human names. Brian, Jimmy, Stewie, Ricky and such. Not so much any more the old traditional dogs names. No Bowsers, Fidos, or Lucky's.  I think of their names as i paint. This girl had an especially suitable name. She seems so sad, distant but wise. Her name means "sorrow".  I'm sure she had a bountiful supply of love to lavish on her owners. I loved painting her. She is such a beautiful Boxer. Watercolour on Arches paper, 16" X 16".

  1. Ross, you have done it again. You've captured a beautiful moment of Lola looking up at her human friends. Wonderful light and colour. The eyes are amazing!

It is nice to also get a glimpse of your studio. Is that "Splash" book on your table the book where your work was featured?

    1. Thank you Renee. I am most pleased with Lola but see a couple of things i need to touch up before sending her on her way. The eyes are my favourite things to do.

Yes, that is the Splash book i was featured in. I keep it close by as a reminder. A highlight for me for sure. :)

  2. Younare right about the human names Ross, in my case it's because my poodle Rosie thinks she's human LOL. Love your Lola painting and seeing your studio glimpses

    1. Thank you Lorraine. Yes, our pups do think they are human don't they? Rosie is a good name. Glad you like my little studio. I should take some more photos to show you what a tiny space it is, but it works. :)

  3. beautiful painting! my dog's name is Tiny - because he is small! 5 lbs! but we call him Mister Tiny Man - because he has a big personality and rules the house with an iron paw.

    1. Thank you Myra. I saw Tiny on your blog! The smaller the tougher, right? :)
We used to call our Paulo, "The Paulo Man". He was such a gentleman. Gotta love these little fur babies. They steal our hearts.
